How To Talk To Your Crush

When you have a huge crush on someone, one of two things tends to generally happen. Either you want to be around them all the time and can’t wait to talk to them everyday, or you freeze up when they are nearby and become too nervous to even look at them. Most people with a crush fall into the latter category. Unfortunately, the only way to bridge the gap from crush to dating is to talk, and talk, and yep, you guessed it-talk to your crush. Here are tips on how to talk to your crush.

Keep it light. Initial conversations with your crush should be lighthearted and easy. Bring up topics that are easy for anyone to discuss, things like hobbies, careers or plans for the weekend. As you get more and more comfortable around your crush, you can branch out to more in-depth topics.

Don’t be afraid to tease! Remember when you were a little kid and your parents would tell you that the person teasing you on the playground actually liked you a lot? How confusing, right? Well, the same theory applies here. Gently giving your crush a hard time in a joking manner is a way to talk to your crush that doesn’t seem like you’re trying too hard. Just remember that if you dish it out, you’ve got to be able to handle it when they tease you right back. Being able to joke around with someone is a great way to bond.

Bring in back-up. The goal is always to spend one on one time with your crush, but if you simply get too nervous on your own it’s perfectly acceptable to ask a friend to join you. When the pressure and spotlight isn’t solely on you, you might feel more comfortable opening up. Make sure that you don’t let your friend do all the talking though-you don’t want them to connect with your crush more than you do!

Ask for help. Whether it be studying for a big test, giving you directions or getting their opinion on something, asking your crush for help is one of the easiest ways to get their attention. However, you have to make sure that you don’t play the damsel in distress card too often or too extreme. You don’t want them to view you as someone who can’t take care of herself or is needy. If they do help you out, offer to treat them to a drink as your way of saying thank you!
